  • Layout checked on mobile and desktop.
  • Run a complete Grammar and Spell Check on the document.  No typos!

A blog post is considered completed when Sand & Steel determines its of sufficient quality to be published.  Generally, it takes about 10 hours to write your first few posts. With practice, coaches have been able to accomplish these in as little as 5 hours.

Creating a Bio

To help you get more clients on your schedule, you’ll need to create a bio.  A bio must contain:

  • a list of all your certifications;
  • a description of all your experience;
  • which certifications and/or courses you are planning to take in 2020;
  • at least 500 words;
  • one head shot taken at 1200 x 1200 resolution in Sand and Steel
  • one picture of your coaching another person at 1200 x 800 resolution.

Your bio is due by the end of the first week.  New clients book with the coach that they believe is best able to help them.  The strength of your bio, the frequency of blog posts, activity on social media, and presence in the gym impacts a client’s decision to book with you initially.  The quality of your personal training sessions will govern whether they rebook you. Some coaches get a lot of clients, and some don’t.

Teaching from a Program (Personal Training Only)

All clients need a prewritten program in order for you train them.  All programs must be approved by Paul in advance of you using the program.  A workout program must contain at least 4 workouts, but it’s better if they contain 8 workouts.

  • In order for us to officially put you on the schedule, you’ll need workout programs 1 and 2 approved by Paul before you start working.
  • You’ll need to complete workout programs 3, 4, and 5 by the end of your first month.

Write your workout programs in accordance with your strengths and knowledge base as a coach.  You are welcome to use our existing programs as inspiration for your programs. You are welcome to use any third party sources.  We care that:

  • you are a master at teaching your program,
  • that it is well balanced,
  • safe and effective.

Consult with other senior coaches, review books in our library, speak with Dawn and Paul.  Use your resources to build the best versions of these programs you can. Teaching from a Flow (Yoga Teachers only)

A beginner flow, an advanced flow, and a flow for a client with a torn meniscus.

The flows should feature a balanced flow comprising: folds, backbends/heart openers, twists, core flexion, hip openers, arm balances, standing balances, and inversions.  Each flow needs a descriptive title and a 2 paragraph description.

The flows should indicate how the transitions between poses should be done.  How many breaths per pose, etc. The flow should take about 45 minutes to complete when led by an instructor.

As you coach at SSF, you’ll likely find that you need more than these 3 flows, especially if you are teaching private sessions.  You can create as many flows as you like, but each has to be approved by Paul.
